Devon business duo franchise their way to the top

Company: Subway
Location: Devon
Employees: >100

Two Devon entrepreneurs have opened three new Subway franchises in Devon after securing a six-figure Enterprise Finance Guarantee loan (EFG) from their local bank.

Two Devon-based entrepreneurs have expanded their Subway franchise group by purchasing three new stores after securing a six-figure Enterprise Finance Guarantee loan (EFG) from their local bank.

The latest additions to the group have boosted staff numbers to over 100 across all their outlets with over 20 jobs being created in the two branches in Exeter and one in Exmouth.

Co-directors Matthew Symons and Harvey Brown launched new company Orbmys this October following the success of their sister business, Symbro, which already controls 12 other Subway franchises in the area.

The pair decided to establish the new business and launch further Subway outlets to strengthen their portfolio. To fund the expansion they approached their bank, and secured the six-figure sum needed to invest.

Matthew and Harvey plan to grow their Subway franchise group next year by sourcing and investing in further locations across the region.

Matthew said: “Running our own outlets has been a fantastic experience. We strongly believe in the strength of the brand, the quality of food we provide and the level of service we offer our customers.

“We have always been passionate about owning our own business and by embarking on the franchise route we have been able to establish a successful company with the support of a well established franchise network.

“By working closely with our bank, we have been able to grow the group and strengthen our company with the three new branches and we look forward to continuing to expand in the future.”

The Franchise Relationship Manager for the bank said: “Franchises offer entrepreneurs a great opportunity to run their own businesses with the expertise of a well-known brand.

“Matthew and Harvey approached us with a meticulous business plan for their expansion of the group. Their switched-on approach, fantastic employee management and backgrounds in business studies have placed them in a great position to continue to achieve their ambitions.

“Investing in a well established franchise brand offers a tried, tested and proven business model with training and ongoing support as a part of the package. Our Franchise Managers are available throughout the UK to support business owners develop new opportunities and to help them succeed.”
