Leeds entrepreneurs brew up success with second coffee shop

Two Leeds-based entrepreneurs are set to open their second coffee shop after securing a five-figure funding boost from their bank.

A Leeds-based coffee shop is set to open its second outlet after its owners secured a five-figure business loan from their bank.

Established in 2006 by Ross Halliday and Jon Baldwin, Out of the Woods is a modern coffee shop, offering a wide selection of fresh juices and smoothies, sandwiches, soups, sushi and sweet treats.

Before becoming business partners, Ross and Jon worked at a suit tailoring company in Leeds. Both were passionate about setting up their own business and offering consumers healthy on-the-go lunches and snacks.

After setting up the first Out of the Woods on Water Lane, Ross and Jon were keen to expand the business and open a second shop in Leeds.

The pair approached their banking partner and secured the funding they needed to kit-out the new 530 sq ft site with coffee machines, equipment and workspace.

Due to open in October, the shop will create four new jobs and specialise in high-end coffees and teas. It will also use locally sourced produce for its menus.

The pair plan to grow turnover to £250,000 over the next year and aim to launch further coffees shops in Yorkshire in the future.

Ross said: “Jon and I are extremely passionate about our business and the service we provide. After meeting at our old workplace, we quickly realised that we both wanted to open a business that offered customers a wide choice of healthy foods for people on-the-go, as well as people who want to experience tasty, local produce.

“Our ethos is centred on using locally sourced produce for all our menus and supporting independent businesses by using them as our suppliers.

“Our bank not only provided us with the funding to refurbish the new site, but we’ve used them as a continuous source of guidance and support. They are a knowledgeable resource which we can discuss our ideas and ambitions for the company.”

The bank’s Relationship Manager said: “Ross and Jon are ambitious entrepreneurs with a clear and inspiring passion for providing healthy food.

“They approached us with a successful track record for the first outlet and a detailed business plan for their new branch. By working closely with them we were able to quickly provide the funding they needed to launch the new shop.”
