Thought leadership on financial and professional services in Liverpool
As a part of the activity during the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, we are holding fringe event this morning to consider the power of clusters and how financial and professional services can support economic growth across Liverpool City Region.
The event is hosted in conjunction with Demos and speakers include Chris Leslie MP, Shadow Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and Nick Brown MP, member of Joint Committee on the Draft of the Financial Services Bill.
This is followed by a lunchtime policymaker roundtable hosted by Weightmans, the leading Liverpool-based national law firm and in conjunction with Liverpool City Region.
City Council leader Joe Anderson will be joined by key policymakers from the shadow treasury team and senior industry representatives from Prudential, Nomura, Panmure Gordon, HSBC and other local firms in a Chatham House rules setting at The Hope Street Hotel.
Mark Chadwick, Chief Executive of LCR said:
“The financial and professional services sector is the largest part of our Knowledge Economy and it’s essential that we take the opportunity to brief politicians, both local and national, on the importance of the sector in the UK and particularly here in Liverpool City Region where we generate £12.25bn of GVA for the local economy.”
Chris Cummings, CEO of TheCityUK added:
“UK financial and professional services supply almost two million jobs to the UK economy, more than two-thirds of which are outside London. Those people provide the essential services which allow businesses to operate and create economic growth. Today we are here to discuss the past, present and future of Liverpool City Region’s proud track record in financial services, from insurance and ship-broking to its current status as one of the largest UK wealth management centres outside London and a centre of excellence for professional services.”
Patrick Gaul, Managing Partner at Weightmans, added:
“As one of the leading law firms in the UK, we are delighted to support such an important event here in Liverpool.”
