A global base for Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan
When Teachers’ Private Capital was looking for an international base for its global investment portfolio (CAN$106 billion in assets), London was the obvious choice.
The private equity arm of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan cites direct flights to almost every major world city, plus a ‘critical mass’ of top quality service providers including banks, private equity firms and business consultants as decisive factors.
“The pool of financial talent there is really unparalleled,” says Erol Uzumeri, the company’s Senior Vice President, adding that London gave them a launch pad for investing in the rest of Europe and globally.
“We are getting much better information about potential opportunities, and a much better understanding of the market, now we have a base in London and are getting in front of the right people a lot more,” says Uzumeri. “The information flow is frankly incredible.”
