Russia’s entry to the WTO
The WTO Ministerial Conference in Geneva saw the accession of four new WTO members (Montenegro, the Russian Federation, Samoa and Vanuatu).
The Russian accession process has been complex and long-drawn out (18 years) and both Russia and the WTO have undergone significant changes over the period. Strongly supported by other major players (Brazil, China, the EU, India, South Africa and the US) Russia’s accession should bring, over time, significant market access opportunities (including for financial and professional services) and a spur to the rule of law in Russia.
John Cooke, Chairman of TheCityUK's Liberalisation of Trade in Services (LOTIS) Committee, featured on 'Voice of Russia' to discuss the implications for Russia and foreign investors.
