  • TheCityUK is the practitioner-led, independent, promotional, membership body for the UK-based financial and related professional services industry. It exists to promote the UK-based financial and related professional services ecosystem and, in so doing, its members.
  • TheCityUK is dedicated to promoting UK financial and professional services industry, its central role in national and global prosperity, and its links with overseas partners.
  • The organisation exists to further the business interests of its members through working with Government, trade and sector groups, and other stakeholders.
  • The COO/CFO will play a key part in delivering the business objectives of TheCityUK and ensuring consistent quality of engagement.
  • The COO/CFO will be a member of the organisation’s Executive Committee and will deputise for the CEO as required.

  • Ensure quality through development, implementation and improvement of company processes.
  • Ensure the highest standards of corporate governance, including through his/her role as Company Secretary.
  • Ensure the resources are adequate for delivery of the strategic objectives• Lead and develop the team of direct reports.
  • Marshalling limited resources to the most productive use with the aim of creating maximum value for the company's members and stakeholders.
  • Developing and cascading the organisation’s strategy/mission statement to all staff, and implementing appropriate rewards/recognition and coaching/corrective practices to align personnel with company goals.
  • Planning by prioritizing member, employee, and organizational requirements.
  • Maintaining and monitoring staffing levels, expectations and motivation to fulfil organizational requirements.
  • Driving performance measures for the operation including a consideration of efficiency versus effectiveness.
  • Oversee and drive member engagement and the recruitment of new members.
  • Develop and help launch revenue generating activity.

Company Strategy

  • Engage with CEO, Chairman, Board and members of the Leadership Team to develop and execute the strategy for TheCityUK.
  • Deliver the agreed strategy within budget and to time.
  • Project manage the interaction of work programmes across the company.
  • Develop a 'campaign led' approach to the work of TheCityUK, in support of delivering the organisation’s business objectives. Ensure good process and governance.
  • As a member of TheCityUK’s Executive Committee ensure the strategy is appropriately reflected in TheCityUK’s whole programme of activity.

CRM / Contact Management:

  • Further enhance the CRM approach and contact database/system to assist in managing TheCityUK’s key contact base, ensuring that Marketing has the tools it needs to adequately promote the company’s work to the right stakeholders in member firms.

Committee Secretariat/Support:

  • Draft presentations and briefings on the operations to support TheCityUK Leadership Council, Board of Directors and others as appropriate.

Relationship Management:

  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders including the Board.
  • Continuously enhance the member experience.
  • Represent the company externally as required.

Agency and Supplier Management:

  • Ensure that all required external suppliers are selected, briefed and their work delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner in keeping with the remit of the organisation and commercial prudence.

Financial Management:

  • Set financial budget for TheCityUK.
  • Ensure that the company performs to that budget.
  • Drive revenue growth.

Performance Measurement:

  • Develop performance measures for the wider strategic performance measurement approach.
  • Assess performance against agreed objectives and performance indicators, flag areas for improvement and make recommendations to address, implement those improvements.

Change Management:

  • Develop workable implementation plans, communicate change effectively and build commitment overcoming resistance.

Membership:

  • Strategic direction and lead Membership Insight Team, ensuring that the deepest and most productive relationships are developed with our members.

General:

  • Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be requested and are commensurate with the post.

Person Specification

  • Leadership experience in mid-market or SME firm.
  • Strong process and project management experience and skills.
  • Experience working within a start-up/small team environment.
  • Familiarity with membership organisations and corporate governance.
  • Experience of delivering high level customer and employee engagement in a SME firm.
  • A strong track record of delivering results; both as part of a team and an individual.
  • Demonstrable track record of innovation which delivers value and development of customer expectations and industry requirements.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Educated to degree level or relevant industry experience.
