Eurasia Market Advisory Group

TheCityUK’s Eurasia Market Advisory Group (MAG) positions the UK as the partner of choice for investment and business from Eurasian countries.

We work to develop policy to enhance trade and investment between the UK and growing markets in Eurasia such as Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Collectively, they offer significant business opportunities for our industry and we seek to increase our industry’s footprint in these markets, including by supporting the development of emerging regional and international financial centres in the region. For example, in Kazakhstan, we have worked closely with the new Astana International Financial Centre, and, in Uzbekistan, we have helped authorities develop ideas around the formation of an International Financial Centre in Tashkent.

We continue to work with industry experts, governments and regulators in Eurasia to help shape high quality regulation and standards in these markets and to promote regional and international cooperation and economic growth.

Priorities of the Eurasia MAG

  • Improving trade for UK-based financial and related professional services in Eurasia.
  • Increasing trade in key sectors including capital market development, banking, law, asset management, insurance and FinTech.
  • Partnering with countries in Eurasia to develop an open and well-regulated financial services sector, consistent with international best practice.
  • Operating direct working agreements with the developing international financial centres in Nur-Sultan, Moscow, Istanbul and Tashkent.

Recent activities

We hold meetings and host roundtable events with guest speakers from key markets in Eurasia such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkey. We support the annual UK-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission and Co-chair the financial services working group.

We also work with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department of International Trade (DIT), on a range of development projects in the region. We have managed several FCDO Prosperity Fund projects in Eurasia focussed on promoting good regulatory practice, corporate governance and financial inclusion. We have delivered these projects working with our members and senior industry stakeholders and officials in key market.
