UK / Swiss Berne Financial Services Agreement Event
We will be holding an event focussing on the implementation of the Berne Financial Services Agreement (BFSA) in association with HM Treasury, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Bank of England, and kindly hosted by Clifford Chance LLP in London. The event will also be streamed live online.
The event will bring together representatives from the UK and Swiss governments and financial services regulators to give the financial and related professional services practitioners in the UK and Switzerland an opportunity to hear directly about how the BFSA works, timelines for its implementation, and practical steps for firms on how to use the new market access the Agreement.
The event will feature a presentation followed by Q&A. If you have specific questions on using the Agreement in practice that you would like to be covered, please submit them in advance of the event to: europe@thecityuk.com
About the Berne Financial Services Agreement
The BFSA is a mutual recognition agreement signed by the UK and Switzerland in December 2023. It recognises the UK and Switzerland’s supervisory and regulatory regimes as of similarly high standards and removes the need for business to navigate some regulatory requirements in both jurisdictions when supplying certain services cross-border.
The Agreement provides new cross-border market access for Swiss firms supplying investment services to wholesale clients and high-net-worth individuals in the UK and for UK firms supplying (re)insurance from the UK into Switzerland.
