Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chairman of the Advisory Council of TheCityUK, spoke tonight at a dinner for Italian and British based Business representatives at British Ambassador Christopher Prentice’s Residence in Rome.
In his address, Sir Win highlighted the important role that financial and related professional services has to play in leading Europe back onto a path of sustainable jobs growth and the role that Italy can play in driving European Economic recovery as incoming President of the Council of the European Union in May.
Sir Win commented; “It is clear that Italy will preside over a period of significant institutional and political change. Leadership and focus will be required to ensure policies enabling the European economy to grow are sustained. We at TheCityUK are concerned to foster such policies. Next week, in the European Parliament in Brussels, TheCityUK will release a new report on Finance for Jobs and Growth in Europe, highlighting areas of the European economy where new thinking is needed”.
Sir Win said that TheCityUK believes that the financial and related professional services sector has an important role to play in leading Europe back on a path of sustainable growth by reviving three key partnerships:
- A renewed partnership between business and finance in Europe, with finance having a key role in keeping funds/capital flowing to business sectors and encouraging European economic growth
- Renewed partnership between finance and policymakers across Europe,
- A renewed partnership between the UK and the rest of the EU.
