A new independent taskforce, commissioned by HM Treasury and BEIS and run by City of London Corporation, is to be launched to help improve socio-economic diversity at senior levels in financial and professional services.
Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK, said,
The challenges of the future must be tackled by the people with the greatest potential. What is most important is where someone’s journey will take them, irrespective of what their starting point might be.
“Many firms have made inspirational progress in enhancing social mobility and improving the diversity of their graduate intakes and future leadership programmes. The needle is moving in the right direction, but we need to do more to make it move further and faster.
“We need to see more progress towards a future where potential talent is discovered and developed whatever someone’s background or where they grew up. The task is not about finding people and changing them to fit the industry, but changing the industry to allow all talent to flourish. The rich diversity of ideas and thought from people from different backgrounds will be only be beneficial to customers, the industry and the country.”
