TheCityUK is running an extensive programme of activity at this year’s party conferences, with a range of events at Labour, Conservative and SNP conferences. We will also be attending the Liberal Democrat party conference.
Our fringe events programme this year will focus on global talent, immigration and the skills needed by the industry beyond Brexit. We have a great line up of speakers and a series of panel events with policymakers and industry leaders. We expect discussions to draw on the recently published report, ‘The UK's future immigration system and access to talent’ by TheCityUK and EY.
We will explore how the financial and related professional services industry can work together with government, Parliament and education providers to ensure a sustainable pipeline of home-grown talent and a dynamic future immigration system.
With the UK government due to publish its White Paper on immigration in the autumn, these discussions will be particularly timely and provide first insights into the government’s and other political parties’ approaches to immigration and skills post-Brexit.
Our impressive list of fringe event speakers include John Glen MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister and the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, Chair, Treasury Committee at the Conservative party conference; Jonathan Reynolds MP, Shadow Economic Secretary and the Rt Hon Yvette Cooper, Chair, Home Affairs Select Committee, at Labour party conference; and John Swinney MSP, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, at SNP conference.
