TheCityUK responds to Chancellor’s 2021 Mansion House speech

Rishi Sunak has today has delivered a speech at the Mansion House where he set out his vision and roadmap for financial services in a changing world.

Responding to the speech, Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK, said,

I am delighted that the Chancellor has set out a positive vision to secure the UK’s global leadership in its most critical and global industry, its largest net exporter, and most significant tax payer.

“Rishi Sunak is right to put openness, competitiveness, world leading technology and green finance at the heart of his vision for financial services. Our industry is a dynamo that powers the rest of the economy and helps people in their everyday lives. It will also be a driver of the recovery from the pandemic and central to seizing the economic opportunities of the 21st century. It’s good to see that the Chancellor shares that ambition.

“Rishi Sunak’s commitment to affirming the UK’s leadership position in multilateral engagements and with global financial markets is welcome. We also need to ensure a compelling proposition for the UK to remain a world leading international financial centre. That means working in partnership with industry and regulators to develop a cross-governmental strategy to bolster the industry’s competitiveness. This includes simplifying our regulatory regime while maintaining its quality and strength, providing certainty and clarity with a business tax roadmap, and enhancing efforts to attract and retain the talent we need.”
