Time for Brexit talks to get down to business

Later this week, the European Council will meet and is expected to give the green light for Brexit negotiations to proceed to the second phase, allowing discussion to move on to the future relationship between the UK and the EU.

Ahead of the meeting, Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK, said,

Negotiators on both sides can be pleased that positive progress has been made. It is an important step, but the job is not yet done. We must maintain progress.

Nearly one year into the negotiations, many of the critical issues relevant to our industry are yet to be discussed. Businesses, their employees and their customers continue to face uncertainty.

Firms’ priority are their customers and clients - they cannot and will not wait indefinitely. We must see rapid progress towards agreeing a transition period and further clarity on the shape of the final deal. It’s time to crack on and get down to business.
