UK must show greater global leadership in green finance

Commenting on a new Environmental Audit Committee report on green finance published today, Anjalika Bardalai, Chief Economist and Head of Research, TheCityUK, said,

The committee is right to warn that the UK risks falling behind its international competitors in this area. It is key that Britain plays a globally leading role in this space.

A strong commitment to industry-wide standards for impact reporting and transparency, for example, would send a clear signal about the UK’s global leadership.

Next week, on Thursday 24 May, TheCityUK and Imperial College Business School will publish a new report, ‘Understanding Green Bonds’ which will examine the state of this relatively new market. This report will be the second in this series of reports on green finance, following on from their 2017 report, ‘Growing Green Finance’.
