Following feedback from a task and finish group made up of some of our members, we have responded to the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill which has its Second Reading on Tuesday 2 September.
We support the principles of greater English devolution, in particular the expansion of the metro mayor model. To make the most of these reforms, and to ensure the best possible collaboration with industry as a driver of growth, structures and strategies developed by devolved leaders need to complement national plans like the Industrial Strategy and ensure a real role for business from day one.
Our response sets out some constructive ways in which this could be achieved, building on the recommendations in our recent Enabling growth across the UK report.
We will continue to engage with both members and mayors to drive prosperity through their Local Growth Plans.
