Anglo-Dutch update – June 2024

The Anglo-Dutch Financial Services Dialogue (ADFSD) met on Tuesday 25 June 2024 at the Embassy of the Netherlands to the UK in London.

The agenda focused on the outcome of the recent EU election, what impact this could have on the UK-Netherlands and UK-EU relationship, and the effect of the new parliament on the wider priorities of the European Union. It also focused on how the UK and the Netherlands are working on developing skills to ensure they can harness the workforce of the future.

The group was joined by Professor Sarah Hall, a Professor of Geography at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow at St John’s College, who spoke about the bilateral relationship. Pieter De Gooijer, Partner at Brunswick Group, spoke about the European Union's changing priorities. Katharina Ehrhart, Policy and Research Manager at the Financial Services Skills Commission, spoke to the group about the development of our industry’s workforce across both markets.

The group also heard from John Alty, a Visiting Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics, about the future of UK’s trade policy.

Anglo-Dutch update – November 2023

The Anglo-Dutch Financial Services Dialogue (ADFSD) met on Tuesday 21 November 2023 at the British Embassy in The Hague.

The agenda focused on sustainability, retail investment, and the impact of upcoming elections on the financial and related professional services industry. The group was also provided with an update on the inaugural EU-UK Financial Regulatory Forum.

Daniel Bouzas Luis, Regional Coordinator for Europe, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Finance Initiative, joined the group via video link to present on the United Nations’ work to accelerate sustainable development within the financial and related professional services (FRPS) sector.

Arjen Leemburg, Director of Flint Netherlands, Becky Young, Director of UK Financial Services Practice, and Fiona Wright, Partner of Financial Services EU Practice from Flint Global, provided an overview of the anticipated outcomes from The Netherlands, EU Parliament and UK elections.

David McCarthy of the Investment Association and Jeroen van Wijngaarden, Executive Director of the Dutch Fund and Asset Management Association, led a discussion about retail investment and the UK and Dutch experiences as two of the only countries to have voluntarily introduced measures such as inducement bans and unbundling.
