Anglo-Italian Dialogue – October 2024
The Anglo-Italian Financial Services Dialogue (AIFSD) convened on 24 and 25 October 2024 in Milan.
The agenda included discussions on shared challenges in financial services, including the economic and political outlook, enhancing capital markets and competitiveness, and navigating the digital transition. Key topics covered were the economic and financial outlook for Italy and Europe, key regulatory issues in the Italian Consolidated Law on Finance, and leveraging AI developments in the insurance industry.
The group heard from various experts, including Alessandro Terzulli from SACE on the economic outlook, Federico Cornelli from Consob on regulatory changes, and Carlotta de Franceschi from Action Institute on boosting competitiveness and long-term investments. Cinzia Amandonico from the National Association of Insurance Companies (ANIA) discussed AI developments in the insurance industry, and Silvia Attanasio from ABI Lab provided insights into financial innovation and digitalisation.
Members also heard from Professor Domenico Siniscalco, Managing Director and Vice-Chairman of Morgan Stanley and former Minister of Economy and Finance in Italy.

The Anglo-Italian Financial Services Dialogue (AIFSD) convened on 3 and 4 April 2025 in London.
The agenda included discussions on the UK and Italy's economic relationship, the evolving EU-UK relationship, and the EU Commission's competitiveness agenda. Key topics covered were the impact and opportunities presented by the digitalisation of capital markets and the future of ESG and its implications for the financial and related professional services industry.
The group heard from various experts, including Anjalika Bardalai from TheCityUK on the UK-Italian economic relationship, Sander Schol from Hanbury Strategy and Marco Gubitosi from Legance on the EU-UK "reset," and Rebecca Wood from Penta Group on the European Commission's Competitiveness Compass. Sharon Lewis from Hogan Lovells, along with Giuseppe Ianniruberto from the Italian Banking Association (ABI), discussed the digitalisation of capital markets. Gillian Lofts from EY and Alessandra Diotallevi from the National Association of Insurance Companies (ANIA) provided insights into the future of ESG.
Scott Devine from TheCityUK led a discussion on ongoing European work, including industry input to the EU-UK Financial Regulatory Forum and the upcoming EU-UK Leaders' Summit. The meeting concluded with discussions on future areas of focus, such as legislation implementation, investor confidence, and regulatory reduction.
Members also heard from Creon Butler, Director of the Global Economy and Finance Programme at Chatham House, as our guest speaker who provided insights into the current global environment and its implications for the UK, Italy, and the EU.
