Economic Research Analyst (FTC)

Job title: Economic Research Analyst
Reporting to (job title): Chief Economist & Head of Research
Objective of role:
• Provide project-based economic research support for a temporary period of 3-6 months.
• To assist the Chief Economist & Head of Research with the production of economic research reports as well as other economic research outputs that support TheCityUK’s wider strategy.

Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Data collection and analysis for economic research projects focusing on green finance, Islamic finance, and UK subnational economies
  • Written analysis of data, supplemented by qualitative research and analysis, in order to draft economic research reports in these areas
  • Data collection and analysis on other topics related to UK-based financial and related professional services as necessary
  • Keeping TheCityUK’s database of economic statistics up to date
  • Supplying economic insight and data for submissions to government, speeches, presentations and other non-report based work
  • Responding to media requests for economic statistics and/or economic analysis.
  • Other duties that may arise in relation to TheCityUK’s statistics-based/economics-focused work.

  • Office for National Statistics analysts
  • Data specialists at TheCityUK’s chosen data provider (Refinitiv)

Person Specification

  • Interest in politics and policy; interest in and knowledge of sustainable finance is desirable
  • Understanding of using economic analysis and data in a broader political context; ability to apply standard (macro)economic analysis techniques to specific sectors
  • Organised; able to keep to deadlines while managing competing priorities and multiple projects
  • Strong attention to detail

Key qualifications/skills

  • Degree in economics
  • Minimum 4-5 years experience working as an economist/economic research analyst
  • Quantitative modelling and estimation skills
  • Familiarity with official UK and international economic data sources
  • Ability to conduct qualitative research and synthesise quantitative and qualitative analysis into coherent narratives
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely in English
  • Understanding of the financial services industry
